M.Tech. (Food Processing Technology) Keeping in view the importance and potentials of Food Industry and to meet the growing demand for Manpower, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada had started School of Food Technology in the academic year 2010-11, with a PG Course in M. Tech (Food Processing Technology). It is first M. Tech. course in Food Processing Technology in Andhra Pradesh. It is also one of the few courses in India with engineering orientation and may be the first with a complete focus on process engineering coordinated under faculty of engineering. It is specially structured to develop manpower with engineering skills to set up and also manage any food industry. Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India has sanctioned Rs.75 lakhs for creation of infrastructure for the school. Food industry is one of the major industries in this region. Rice milling and fish processing are two major industries. Fruits and vegetable processing, Sago, Vegetable oils, Sugar, Beverages, Dairy, Dhal Mills, Roller flour mills, Distilleries are the other important industries. Apart from this, there are lot of small scale & cottage industries (Mango Jelly, Flour mills, Sweet/Snacks, Bakeries, Pickles, Cashew nuts etc.). Traditional foods like Khaja and Pootharekulu are made in this district.
